For each of my writing projects I create a playlist. It often serves as "mood music" when I'm thinking about the story and the characters. Sometimes I actually write to these collections of songs, sometimes I merely listen to them when I'm in the car, or walking around town, thinking about the story. Some songs may be referenced in the work I'm creating, others may just fit the tone of the writing.
